Happy New Year!
This time of year there is a lot of “new year, new me,” messaging we are all getting. Goal setting, striving, overhauling this aspect of your life or that. And perhaps that messaging resonates with you, and there is certainly space for you here if it does. There was a period in my life that “new year, new me,” was a motivator and spurred me forward in my life.
But I wish to offer a slight reframe for those of us who “new year, new me,” does not resonate, or perhaps feels tired. This reframe is one which informed the timing of our rebrand, and the curation of offerings we bring to you this January.
Here in the middle of winter, a time nature calls on us to rest and restore, to turn inwards and reflect. What if, instead of “new year, new you,” a shift into the new year can be one of reacquaintance to the wholeness of who you are, a celebration of that which is essential and true in ourselves. It is true that on that journey and in self exploration, perhaps there are shifts that one may take on in their habits or schedule. Perhaps there are new things to try. But perhaps we can take on those things in service of honoring ourselves, and drive those changes from within, instead of by the external pressures around us.
In changing our name, we are tapping into what is most essential about HeartSpace, that we are a community space, driven by values, and committed to providing excellent yoga instruction. We grow from a lineage of nearly 25 years of yoga at 747 Madison Ave, from when Nancy (Polachek) Cummings first opened Washington Park Yoga in 1999. In connecting what is most essential and true about our studio, our mission is to make yoga accessible, honor its origins, and make our space a supportive one for your wellness and wellbeing.
Our January schedule reflects this, and we will work to keep bringing you offerings and bringing in wellness professionals aligned with our mission. No matter what you are needing to support you, we hope we are offering it, and would like to if we’re not.
We would love to hear about it! Join us in the Heartspace Community Facebook Group to let us know what you’re up to this year.
In Gratitude,
